resources

My own healing journey began with books, podcasts, and the people whose knowledge and lived experience expanded my understanding of the body, the nervous system, trauma, and women’s health.

On this page, I’ve gathered some of the resources that have had the greatest impact on me and supported me along the way. I hope you’ll discover ideas, perspectives, and inspiration that will support you on your own journey as well.

I intend to add more information as time comes but for now there is some for starters!

TRAUMA & SOMATICS

Peter Levine – Waking the Tiger

This is one of the foundational books on trauma and the body’s natural ability to heal. Peter Levine explains how overwhelming experiences become stored in the nervous system and why healing often begins by listening to the body rather than trying to think our way through our experiences. A beautiful introduction to the world of trauma, somatics, and the wisdom of the body.

Bessel van der Kolk – The Body Keeps the Score

This was the first book I ever read about how the body stores trauma and unprocessed experiences. I was 21 years old at the time, and it completely changed the way I understood the body and the healing process. I finished it within a week, reading between lectures and every chance I got.

Although both the author and the book have since become the subject of various discussions and criticism, I still resonate with much of what is shared in its pages. If possible, I recommend reading it in English.

MENSTRUAL HEALTH & THE FEMALE CYCLE

Lisa Hendrickson-Jack – The Fifth Vital Sign

“Eye-opening” hardly does this book justice. It explores everything from what a healthy menstrual cycle actually looks like to the beliefs and cultural narratives we carry about our cycles. Thought-provoking, comprehensive, and an incredibly valuable read.

WOMEN’S HISTORY & LIBERATION

Merlin Stone – When God Was a Woman

For thousands—perhaps even tens of thousands—of years before the rise of patriarchal monotheistic religions, the feminine creative force and the Great Mother were honoured across many cultures. Yet much of this chapter of human history has been erased or forgotten through the influence of patriarchy and organised religion.

This book opened an entirely new perspective for me on women’s history, culture, and the collective story that has shaped the world we live in today.
